I will try to put everything that you taught us into practice to start getting the hang of all this expressions:
using "get":
We got to the airport in the nick of time! We almost missed our flight.
I got home after a long day of work!
We are getting from BA to Patagonia this weekend! That's a 16 hours long car journey
Person A: when are you going to arrive?
Person B: I should get there by 4:OO, give or take a few minutes
using "nice"
The meeting was nice and short! I wish all of them would be like that.
The exam was nice and easy! I finished it in no time
That was a nice and spot on answer!
using "just"
I just called to check in and see if you need anything!
Shop assistant: how can I help you?
Possible customer: I am just browsing
Person A: Any plans for the weekend?
Person B: I am just gonna chill and hang out with family.
using "purportedly"
The kids were purportedly doing homework, but they were just goofing around.
We were purportedly cleaning the house, but we were actually watching flicks.
using "quote, unquote"
Donald Trump said to quote, "we are gonna take care of this", unquote but he actually never did
She said quote, unquote " I will be there in no time" but it actually took her ages to arrive.
Thanks a lot for this lesson!
Hey Kevin! Thanks a lot for this helpful lesson! I love learning English with podcast because it forces me to figure out what is being said without the help of a visual image or the person articulating the words. I also think that listening to podcast is really convenient. You can just download them and listen to them when you are out and about and have your ears free. I have never heard about the Better @ English before but I will check it out.
My favorite podcast are: "Life in English" hosted by Tony Kaizen and and "Fun English lesson". There are authentic when speaking and teach colloquial English used in daily life!
